Aeroplanes on Anglesey – RAF Valley

During our recent Anglesey trip we made a visit to the RSPB Valley Wetlands Nature Reserve site, which was formally known as Valley Lakes. It really is worth finding time to stop off and have a wander there if you are in Anglesey and have the time to do so. You can find information and other pictures from our trip at the first of three blog posts at this link and there is also a set of black and white ‘people photos’ from the trip at this link.

RAF Valley

The Wetlands nature reserve is located right next to the military air force base of  RAF Valley, the home of  the No 4 Flying Training School and where the RAF train fighter pilots as well as  aircrew for mountain and maritime operations across the world. The proximity of the wetlands site to the airbase provided an opportunity for some different photography and it was certainly quite a challenge to get decent pictures of the Hawk jets that were coming and going whilst we were there. If the opportunity presents itself it’s possibly a genre of photography I’d be keen to try some more of.

I suppose like many things there’s a technique to be learned and developed, and again like many things I doubt there is any real substitute for lots and lots of practice. The pictures in the gallery below were the best I could do on the day, and although there are one or two that I am reasonably pleased with, it’s also pretty clear there is plenty of room for improvement.

The Hawk jets certainly moved a bit quicker than the aircraft that were coming and going during our recent visit to Barton aerodrome in Manchester – if you didn’t see that post you can check it out at this link.

Clicking on any of the images below will open a photo gallery that you can click or scroll through … and it will be clear that one of the pictures has had the sky altered (I couldn’t resist)

It's good to share
