Sunny days macro garden photos with Canon 90D & Sigma 105mm

Some more from the garden with the Canon EOS 90D and the Sigma 105mm macro lens.

In many respects it’s more of the same as my last post a week or two back.  My current lack of mobility (explained over at this post) means I’m not really managing to get too much further than the garden and despite my best efforts recovery from the knee injury is frustratingly slow.

Ladybirds

We don’t seem to have seen so many Ladybirds (or Ladybugs in North America) in our garden this year.

I’m not at all sure why that is.  A quick check online suggests there are actually more than usual in the UK this year. I gather the increase in numbers is due mainly to the warm weather and the abundance of their main source of food – aphids.

Insects

Apparently there are more than 24,000 different types of insects in the UK and they share the following characteristics: six legs, three body sections (head, thorax and abdomen), a pair of antennae, an exoskeleton, compound eyes, wings (in most cases) and a three or four-stage life cycle (egg, larva or nymphs, pupa and adult).

A wander around the garden soon reveals a thriving world of insects, spiders and flies – I think the amount of activity that takes place – mostly unseen in millions of gardens up and down the country is just remarkable. There’s always such a lot going on.
