August visit to Burton Mere Wetlands – RSPB Reserve

August visit to Burton Mere Wetlands – RSPB Reserve

This was our second visit to the RSPB wetlands site at Burton Mere, our previous visit there was a couple of months ago back in June.

As I have written a few words in an earlier post about the site and following our June visit I have not repeated them here, you can see and read that post at this link.

The weather on our visit wasn’t great as it was clouding over and a little dull, fortunately the rain held off until just as we were leaving.

Quieter than our last visit

The avocets we had seen last time have headed off now but there were plenty of lapwings, greylag geese and a good number of little egrets. We also saw a shelduck from the excellent vantage point provided at the ‘new’ hide. In general there was a good deal less activity at the site during this visit than when we were there in June, but all in all it was worth the trip especially as it’s so accessible and less than an hours journey from home for us.
