No rain in Manchester today – colour popped street pictures

We enjoyed another day in central Manchester last week when we headed over to Media City.

Our trip there was to watch and listen to a recording for BBC Radio 3 by the magnificent BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

We were in no rush and took the familiar bus route into central Manchester. It’s a place that I have always called town, and still do.  My walking is still at a somewhat slower pace as the knee recovery continues but it’s all good exercise even at a reduced pace.

We were in central Manchester just a few weeks ago for a similar event at Media City . – and you can check back on that post at this link.

No rush and no plan

Other than getting to Media City for a speciifc time we had no particular plan and were in no particular rush.

Once off the bus we pretty much drifted along, through some back streets, window shopping and people watching. We nipped in and out of streets to see what caught the eye and to snap a few pictures before heading down Market Street and into the Arndale Centre.

In the Arndale we enjoyed a bite to eat and a decent coffee before heading for the Metro and the ride out to the quays and Media City.

There really is something special about a live orchestra

There’s something really good about getting off the tram and heading into the world of music. We loved the 90 minutes or so we spent listening to the BBC orchestra.

Neither my wife nor I would ever claim any substantive knowledge of any particular musical genre let alone classical music. That aside we have really enjoyed our visits to listen to the Phihamonic orchestra. In fact we have tickets for a third performance in as many months when we head back there in February.

After a really enjoyable time we headed back to town for a couple of beers.  First at the Britons Protection, and then at the 18th Century City Arms.  Two terrific pubs that are a good reminder of how pubs used to be – and I would say are all the better for that.

We were not quite done …

Before we headed for home we went back to the Arndale Centre and paid a second visit to the very decent ProCook retail outlet. Once there we added to a purchase we had made earlier in the day.

Then we really did head for the bus home. We had enjoyed another good Manchester day, we were tired but felt like we had managed to squeeze something special out of an ordinary day.

Colour popped …

This blog post is essentially a picture post with snaps of moments from our day and colour popped scenes. It’s just Manchester being Manchester.
