Low flying arrivals – one minute out from Manchester airport

I was out early yesterday, at a time when most people are still in bed or getting ready for the day ahead.

It was early warm and still, and it felt far more like a July morning than anything you’d expect in late spring.

Clear blue skies, no breeze to speak of, and the promise of a hot  – plus 30c day ahead!

With an hour to spare and no real plan, I ended up doing something simple.

I headed to a near‑empty car park in Cheadle to watch the aircraft drop into Manchester Airport. Nothing dramatic, nothing complicated — just me, my camera and a steady string of arrivals overhead.

It’s only ten minutes from home, but the planes pass barely a minute away from touchdown.  They are low enough to read the graphics as they roar overhead. Perfect for a bit of casual spotting without the crowds or the usual airport chaos.

It was a decent way to spend an hour.  Quiet and no one else about, just me watching the aircraft line themselves up on their final approach.

One after another they all seemed to be on an identical path as they made their way to the landing area at the airport.

Not the busiest time of day, but that almost made it better — a contrast to how I’d spent the previous couple of days, out on one of the bikes and heading across to North Wales. A different pace entirely, and you can read about that ride at this link. Quite a contrast as well to my last blog post from the 2026 FA Cup Final and the crowded scenes at Wembley.

This one’s simpler. Just a handful of photos from a warm morning in an empty car park, watching the world fly overhead.
