An impromptu wander around the quiet paths of Dunham Massey.

There’s a lot to be said for doing things to a plan. But there is often just as much to be said for doing something at short notice and without a plan.

That’s pretty much exactly what we did earlier in the week when we decided to head to Dunham Massey.

We’ve been to this National Trust property a lot over the years. I think the last time I posted about it was back in 2024 – see this link.

It’s a tremendous place to visit at any time of year and we have enjoyed walks there in all seasons and in all weathers.

Our visits have also included the annual ‘after dark‘ trail. If that’s something you haven’t done I’d say it is well worth doing.

It’s just a decent place to visit

Dunham Massey really is a good place for a slow wander – if you want to be busy and rush around this isn’t for you, but with time on your hands it’s an enjoyable and peaceful place to go.

This National Trust site has a good mix of history and open spaces – it’s easy to enjoy a slow walk and take time out to snap some photographs, including of the fallow deer that roam freely.

The deer park is extensive and measures some 300 acres and pretty much surrounds the 17th century Georgian house and buildings and beautiful gardens. Additionally I would say the whole site has a really good level of accessibility

The well maintained paths allow you to pass the freely roaming deer, the dozens of ancient trees as well as taking you through the impressively maintained gardens.

It really is an excellent place to visit, and if you haven’t been then quite simply you should.
