Wandering around the National Trust property – Dunham Massey
I think the last time I posted about visiting the National Trust property at Dunham Massey was back in November 2022.
Dunham Massey sits between Manchester and the start of Cheshire. This particular National Trust property is probably the one we visit the most, and one we never get tired of.
It really is a good place to visit and I’ve lost count of how many times we have been there.
What’s there?
It’s easy to lose a few hours at Dunham Massey with its large deer park of around 300 acres, an historic house and outbuildings along with some superb and well tended gardens.
Added to that are plenty of paths to wander, and there are trails for children to explore. It’s an ideal location to take a picnic and on all but the busiest of days it always feels like there is plenty of space there.
Previously used as a …
During the First World War the location was actually used as military hospital, which was before it was designated as Grade I listed building in 1959. It’s been under the ownership of the National Trust since 1976.
The park and gardens at Dunham Massey are listed as Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
We didn’t go round the old and historic house on this visit, we have done that previously and there’s a limit on just how interesting that would be for a three year old. We did however stop for an ice cream before we headed for home.

There are plenty of pictures here from our visit and clicking on any of the images below will open a picture gallery that can be clicked or scrolled through.
It’s a great place to visit. Lots of safe paths for the children.
