Signs of spring weather a walk along the Macclesfield canal

With just the hint of what feels like long overdue spring weather in the air we headed off towards High Lane which is a few miles from central Stockport.

High Lane actually lies about five miles outside of Stockport with the busy A6 road cutting through it. The A6 is a road that runs pretty much all th way between Luton and Carlisle.

The A6 is one of the main north-south roads in England, and is the fourth longest numbered road in Britain with a length of around 285 miles!

A pleasant area

It’s a pleasant enough area and a place we enjoy calling to for the enjoyable and relaxing canal side walks.

On occasions we have been known to buy a bite to eat from the excellent High Lane Fish Bar on the A6.  The easy access to the Macclesfield canal and the Middlewood Way makes the High Lane area a great place to start a walk from. The fact its close to the National Trust property at Lyme Park is a bonus.

The Macclesfield canal and the Middlewood Way

It wasn’t a random destination, and although a while since I last posted about walking along the Macclesfield canal it’s a really is one of our favourite walks. on the A6.

As well as the canal side walking the former railway line that makes up the Middlewood Way is great for walkers and cyclists.  The Middlewood way runs for 11 miles and for almost most of that distance it runs close to the Macclesfield Canal.
