The Grey Heron – capable fish catcher. Part 3

Quick fire fishing

The third part of this weeks Heron Watch allowed me to see the Heron in fine fishing form. Within the space of less than two minutes and almost as soon as I had positioned myself on the bank opposite to where he stood he had found, caught and swallowed three fish!

With herons it’s very much a case of ‘eat when you can’, which is exactly what he went onto do and in the space of 10 to 15 minutes had eight fish, I understand that herons can easily eat a 1lb of fish a day
