Visiting Lyme Park
The last time I wrote about visiting Lyme Park was earlier in the year, back in January and you can go back to that post at this link. For our most recent visit, as with other National Trust properties visits currently need to be pre-booked to enable active and safe management during the Covid 19 pandemic.
It’s hardly more than a slight inconvenience and is more than worth it to visit somewhere as magnificent as Lyme Park.
Lyme Park is located just on the edge of the Peak District. The estate is a fair size at around 1,400 acres. The drive alone up to the well laid out parking area is superb and it’s easy to let yourself imagine for a moment how incredible it must have been to approach the mansion house hundreds of years ago on foot, on horseback or in a carriage.

We have visited the Lyme estate a few times and have set off walking in different directions on each occasion. This visit took us just outside the walled boundary and onto the open moors for a short while before clambering over the high wooden steps set into the dry stone boundary wall.
In addition to the fabulous gardens there is also a herd of red deer. On this visit we were not fortunate enough to see them, but the superb walking and views were more than enough to satisfy us for a few hours.
