Close to Buxworth Basin, which itself is close to Whaley Bridge is The Peak Forest Tramway Trail. The Tramway was used to connect the limestone quarries at Dove Holes to the Buxworth canal basin for ongoing transportation of the products from the quarries.
Ambling along the trail makes for a decent walk (of around six miles or so). The walk takes in a mix of open countryside, a small scale industrial area and throughout the walk traces of the past are visible – old walls, footways and of course the area where the track used to run there is a clear legacy of years gone by.
