Royal Air Force Museum in the Midlands, visit to RAF Cosford

I wrote fairly recently about a visit to Manchester Barton Aerodrome.  I then posted another couple of blogs by way of catching up on things and this is the last of the  ‘catch up’ posts before I head off on my next motorcycle trip.

It was back in July, on one of those occasional days when we really did have some sunshine that my wife and I headed off to RAF Cosford –  the home of Royal Air Force museum in the Midlands and we had a really enjoyable day out.

RAF Cosford is easy to get to, is located in the Midlands and has pretty good motorway access. It’s only about thirty minutes or so from from the centre of Birmingham and I think only ten minutes or so from Telford.

First class day out

It really is a cracking day out. I think this visit was maybe the fourth or fifth time I have visited, over the last 15 years or so.

I don’t think it’s a place that I will ever tire of going to. This trip was particularly good and enjoyable as we were able to take three of our grandchildren. They each have active and enquiring minds so we thought this place would be ideal for them, and that’s exactly as it turned out. As it happened we were also able to link our visit in with some work they were doing with Scouts (which explains why in some of the pictures you will see then wearing their Scout Neckers)

There’s a lot to see there

There really is a lot ot see on site. The National Cold War Exhibition is impressive,  but seeing some of the aircraft that are in exceptional condition and so well presented is really quite superb. But there is so much more including : displays of aircraft, iconic cars, models, tanks and even life-sized Russian dolls. along with plenty of classic aircraft from the past.

Ticks all the boxes

The museum is easy to get to and has ample car parking facilities. All the staff we had contact with were helpful and friendly, the exhibits are well set out in a logical order and most of them are quite stunning and fascinating.

There are refreshments available and there are also plenty of spaces (indoors and outdoors) to sit and eat your own drinks and food.

More information

You can find plenty more information about the museum at RAF Cosford at the official website – use this link to go there. And if you do go we thought the 4d Experience was well worth the money. We did the Red Arrows experience – but I think there are three or four different types you can choose from.
