Swallows nesting and feeding

Swallows nesting and feeding

The last time I posted pictures of swallows was after we had taken a walk down the River Weaver and see them at the Vale Royal locks. Just a few days ago my wife caught sight of swallows swooping to and from a nest high up the side of a local house and under the overhang of the roof.

More than one nest

Later the same day we walked back to check the action out and we noticed there were in fact a series of nests – three in total.

It wasn’t particularly easy to get good photographs but there are a series of pictures below that show the chicks being fed. The swallow chicks are not in the nest for long, probably about 20 to 22 days or so and then they will be off, and at some point make their long journey south for the winter.

See you next summer

It’s a pretty certain bet that we wil see the parents again when they return next year.  We will remember to look for them and hopefully get some better pictures.
